Lady Pirates Shut Out Atlanta, 9-0

The Pittsburg Lady Pirates opened up their District 14-4A slate with a 9-0 shutout over the Atlanta Lady Rabbits on March 17 at home.
Pittsburg’s Kaycee Parker struck out 15 batters in six and one-half innings in the circle as she recorded the win with a 3-hitter.
Parker got out of a jam in the top of third as Atlanta had bases loaded with one out; she fanned the next two batters to retire the side.
During the contest, Parker fanned three batters in the row in the second, fourth and sixth innings. In her final inning, she fanned the first two batters and the game ended on an Atlanta fly ball.
“What a way to start my senior year for me and the 2017 season for our team,” said Parker. “It feels great coming off of a 9-0 victory against Atlanta, who historically is a solid opponent.” winning pitcher Kaycee Parker said.
She said she’s thrilled with what the freshmen have brought to the field so -- so far.
“I have high hopes for this season and if we all keep working hard, there will be a place for us in the playoffs and possibly even state,” Parker said.  “We need to all stay fully committed.”
Pittsburg had 10 hits on the night.
Sydney Waldrep, Madison Sansom, Tori Henderson and Parker had two hits each for the Lady Pirates. One of Henderson’s hits was a solo home run in the fifth inning for a 5-0 lead.
Head coach Brandi Batchelor said her team is focus and determined.
“I have never seen the focus and determination that I am seeing now. These girls have tunnel vision and are fully committed,”  said Batchelor said. “I cannot wait to see what great things are in store for our Pittsburg Lady Pirate family. Starting off district with a victory feels incredible, but that’s only part of the process. We are enjoying this with Paris on our mind.”
