Pittsburg ISD 2024 School Bond

Election Day is Saturday, May 4th

PRESS RELEASE

The Pittsburg Independent School District Board of Trustees unanimously approved calling a School Bond Election for May 4, 2024.

A Facilities Planning Committee of more than 20 Pittsburg ISD community members developed the proposal with the staff and administration; this process has been ongoing since 2022. Their primary task was to develop and present to the Board of Trustees a long-term plan that included a recommendation for implementation.

I want to thank our board, staff, and planning committee for their hard work to help get us to this point. It’s been eight years since the last capital investment in Pittsburg ISD, and several areas in our schools will be addressed in this bond proposal.

Texas school districts do not receive state funding for renovating or building new schools. Instead, they must receive funds through school bond elections. The 2024 Bond will ask voters to consider a $93.8 million package in two propositions.

Proposition A is for $74.4 million and would include the following:

  • New High School

  • Safety & Security

  • Bus Road

If voters approve $74.4 million for Proposition A in May, the estimated impact would be $16.4858 per month for a home valued at $99,763 (after applying the $100,000 homestead exemption) — $199,763 is the average market value for a home in Pittsburg ISD.

Proposition B is for $19.4 million and would include the following:

  • Junior High Additions and renovations

  • Safety & Security

If voters approve $19.4 million for Proposition B in May, the estimated impact would be $4.2981 per month for a home valued at $99,763 (after applying the $100,000 homestead exemption) - $199,763 is the average market value for a home in Pittsburg ISD.

If voters approve the total $93.8 million for both Proposition A and B in May, the estimated impact would be $20.7839 per month for a home valued at $99,763 (after applying the $100,000 homestead exemption) - $199,763 is the average market value for a home in Pittsburg ISD.

Recent legislation delivered the largest property tax cut in Texas history. The combination of compression and the $100,000 homestead exemption cut school district property taxes for homeowners around the state.

We want to make sure that our community is well-informed with the facts around this bond proposal. We will contact everyone by mail, email, and social media with factual information about the bond propositions. More information about the bond will be available on the district website.

Early voting begins April 22 and ends April 30, and Election Day is Saturday, May 4.
