PHS Students Earn Recognition 
at Texas DECA Conference

Pittsburg High School DECA chapter members earned high honors at DECA’s annual State Career Development Conference in Dallas, Texas. Students receiving recognition at the state level were:

  • Daisy Portillo - Public Relations Project, State Finalist
  • Lessly Garza & Ali Lankford - Creative Marketing Project, State Finalists
  • Marandy Burrow & Julianna Sewell - Learn and Earn Project, State Finalists
  • Ky’Auna Jones - Entrepreneurship Promotion Project, State Finalist
  • Daisy Portillo - Texas DECA Scholarship recipient
  • DECA Chapter - Received recognition for Community
  • Service and Promotion Campaigns
  • Marandy Burrow & Julianna Sewell - Recognized as 2019 District 6 officers

During the school year, student members take part in the organization’s competitive events program, allowing them to compete for local and district titles. The competitions are designed to simulate real-life business scenarios and test students’ academic understanding and skills development. The top district winners put their talents to the test during the program’s competition in Dallas. The Texas DECA Career Development Conference was the peak of competition where over 4,200 students vied for state honors. In addition to career-based competition, DECA members engaged in electing new state officers and networking opportunities with students, teachers, and business leaders from across the state.


As state finalists Portillo, Garza, Lankford, Burrow, Sewell, and Jones will be attending the upcoming DECA International Career Development Conference participating in the Emerging Leaders Series.
